Open-Hearted Designs

Explore the beauty of contemporary floral arranging through the graceful shape of the heart. In this workshop, instructor Kate Hugo Vernon will focus on open design principles — using space as an element of style — while creating arrangements that feel both modern and deeply expressive. With flowers as your medium, you’ll learn how to balance form, line, and negative space to craft a heart-shaped design that breathes with elegance and emotion.

Embracing Asymmetry Workshop

In this hands-on course, led by Kate Hugo Vernon, owner of The Arranger’s Market, students will break out of their traditional boxes and triangles and create dynamic, asymmetrical designs. Using seasonal materials such as budding branches and blooming bulbs, the course will focus on how to construct arrangements that are balanced without being symmetrical and lush without being fussy. Topics will include how to create focal points, line, and movement, but the emphasis will be on learning to follow the natural flow of plant materials. Beginners and experts welcome.

In Full Bloom: Garden Tour and Workshop - SOLD OUT!!!

We’re changing things up this time!

This workshop will consist of multiple parts.

  • People are always curious where our unique floral material comes from. For the first time we’ll actually visit the primary source, Nancy Ross Hugo’s garden in Ashland, where Nancy will give us an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour and share tips on growing cut-flowers. We’ll each create a small arrangement on site. Bud vase provided.

  • We’ll then head to the charming Hanover Arts & Activities Center where we will adorn our lunch table with our bud vases and enjoy a delicious boxed lunch provided by Homeades by Suzanne.

  • After lunch, you can sit back and relax while floral designers Kate Hugo Vernon & David Pippin take the stage to demonstrate their personal floral interpretations of the theme “In Full Bloom” all while exploring the essentials of strong mechanics, purposeful structure, expressive color combinations, and the layering of shapes and textures.

  • Then it will be your turn to interpret the theme “In Full Bloom” using the bounty of late summer flowers, greens, and pods provided. Bring your own vase. (Nancy, Kate, & David will be on hand for gentle coaching).

Tuition: $225
